I am offering retiree or absentee boarding at Oak Grove Farm in Marshall, VA. Oak Grove is a 600 acre working dairy farm, located near Rt 50 on Atoka Road, with a little over 16 acres devoted to horses. There are two large paddocks with brand new four board fencing, run in sheds and magnificent oaks for shade. There is a four stall, airy barn. This is an ideal setup for retired horses or owners who are moving and need a safe, reliable and comfortable home for their horse.
I have worked as a vet tech at the Equine Medical Center, Piedmont Equine Practice and Deepwood Vet, as well as a research tech at Middleburg's MARE Center. I have also been a professional trainer, therapeutic riding instructor, barefoot trimmer, and managed a small Thoroughbred breeding facility. I have extensive knowledge of health care, especially regarding "senior citizens". References available.
This is a full-care setup that will be mostly field board. I will blanket and bring horses inside in case of sickness or severe weather (hot or cold). Hay will be provided in round bales in the winter. I can offer deworming, vaccines (except for Rabies) hoof trimming for an extra fee. TLC and daily feedings are included. This is full service care for owners who need the guarantee for their retirees or horses they must leave in the area.
Oak Grove is an organic, sustainable, natural operation, (as well as beautiful!) and I apply the same principles to the horse care. I am a strong supporter of holistic and natural medicine as well as traditional vet care when needed. I also live on-site. If you are looking for dependable, superior care for your retiree or in your absence, this is the place for your horse. Space is limited--reserve your spot! Available May 1st.
