As summer hits full stride, two of Hyperion's top stallions were selected to make the trip to Aachen, Germany to represent Team Ireland at the CHIO Aachen 2014 World Equestrian Festival. With Irishman Darragh Kenny at the reigns, the prospects were high for Chin Quidam VDL and Imothep to show well in their respective classes.

Within 48 hours of arriving from a successful showing at Spruce Meadows, in Calgary, Canada, both Imothep and Chin were under saddle for qualifying rounds to show later in the week. Kenny provided his review after the first day of competition.

"Both stallions were quite impressive, and felt as though they were unaffected from 4,800 mile trip they just took. The plan was to take things easy and let them feel out their courses in preparation for the upcoming events. This is the first time I have ever competed on the world stage at Aachen. Ever since I began competing with Team Hyperion I believe the quality and talent of their horses will continue to allow me the opportunity to compete at shows of this caliber. The future looks to be a long-lasting and bright one, especially with the depth of ability in the Hyperion stables."

Owner Vicky Castegren said, "Aachen is a pinnacle show for our sport, and the privilege of having two of our stallions competing there only goes to show the capabilities and potential of our show horses along with the partnership we have developed with top showing riders such as Darragh. We are overwhelmingly pleased to be representing the talent of American show horses and Irish riders. I would like to take the time to publicly thank Robert Splaine, Chef d'Equipe of Team Ireland and Darragh Kenny for believing in our stallions and Hyperion Stud."

Chin Quidam (Chin Chin x Quidam de Revel x Landgraf I) was entered to compete in the 7/8 year olds, a class of more than 40 of the most elite youngsters from around the world. Darragh and Chin successfully navigated the Sparkassen Youngster's Cup course in a time of 63.78, without any faults, which catapulted them to the top of the rankings where they remained in the lead for the remainder of the competition, scoring the first win for both Kenny and Team Hyperion. The momentum gained from this first win carried over to the Sparkassen Youngster's Cup Finale two days later, where the Kenny/Chin duo dominated the competition with a clear round in a time of 45.29, nearly two full seconds faster than Olympic Champion Eric Lamaze on his Zangersheide mount, Check Picobello Z.

Imothep (Indoctro x Calvados x Dominard) and Darragh Kenny were one of four pairings to compete for Team Ireland in the two-round Nation's Cup at Aachen. While, to date, the pairs' best showing was 8th of 50+ riders at the HITS Million in Ocala, Florida, over the winter months. With one knock-down in the first round, the pair showed to be contenders for the second round of competition, and we're selected to retain their position as Irish representatives in the remaining event. Putting the one mishap behind them, Darragh piloted Imothep through a clear second round, which even some of the best in the world weren't able to accomplish. With this extremely impressive showing of power and finesse, the 50,000 spectators were left abuzz, with many asking "Who is this Imothep, and where did he come from?"

During the entire sequence of competition, Darragh Kenny had arguably one of the most impressive rookie outings in the history of Aachen. Combining the two wins on his Hyperion Stud mounts, he also won in the speed class on Picolo, a horse owned by Darragh himself.

Elated owner, Vicky Castegren said, "I always knew that my boys had it in them to show well on the world stage, I just never believed it would happen so quickly and at a place as prestigious as Aachen! We are overwhelmed with pride and excitement for what we just accomplished and the doors that will continue to open for us. We are so proud of the results we produced, and we fully understand that without every person on the team, this success would not have been possible. We are very much looking forward to what lies ahead. Imothep and Chin Quidam VDL are only a select few of a strong stable."
