Virginia equine attorney Bruce R. Smith will offer a free seminar on legal issues for horse owners, farm owners, trainers and other equine professionals. Among the topics discussed will be loose horse liability, releases, sales contracts, limited liability companies and boarding agreements. The seminar will be presented in two hour-long segments.

Mr. Smith will first address the topic of Understanding and Avoiding Equine Liability. He explained that, "All horsepeople are concerned about liability, but there are several steps people can take to limit their exposure. Some people think that a signed release will solve all their problems. It won't. The laws in Virginia differ from most states in some very important respects. Some of those laws can work in favor of horse owners, and others definitely don't."

Part Two will focus on Legal Issues in Buying and Selling Horses. "I get a number of calls from people involved in sales that have gone bad. We'll discuss fraud, warranty issues and ways that buyers and seller can avoid costly disputes," said Mr. Smith.

Attendees will have an opportunity to have their questions answered by an experienced equine attorney.

Mr. Smith has represented owners, trainers, competitors, breeders, veterinarians, racing syndicates, sales companies, equine retirement and rescue groups and other non-profit equine organizations. He has litigated a variety of horse related cases including fraud, breach of contract, commission disputes and veterinary malpractice. He also has set up equine partnerships, corporations and limited liability companies, and helped clients with liability releases, boarding agreements, sales contracts, syndications, and many other issues. Mr. Smith has his own practice, located in Fairfax County. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and formerly was a partner with Wyatt, Tarrant and Combs, LLP in Lexington, Kentucky.

Mr. Smith has been a presenter at the National Equine Law Conference and was a popular speaker at Equine Extravaganza and other horse related seminars.
