If you are currently feeding your horse any type of joint supplement you need to be certain that it doesn't contain Glucosamine. As the name implies "Glucose"amine is a simple carbohydrate/sugar.

The research has been done & is published as it pertains to the human population. A sedentary lifestyle combined with a diet of simple carbohydrates leads to metabolic disorders.

If you research this post you will see that this is also true regarding horses. Since so many horses nowadays have a variety of metabolic problems it is wise to be aware of what you are feeding. Just as you wouldn't feed a ration of sweet feed/whole grains, you shouldn't feed glucosamine!!!!!

Our horses have become sedentary since the industrial revolution, they have been kept in stalls and fed high carbohydrate feeds for several generations. It only stands to reason that the horse population is heading in the same direction as the human population with increased incidence of Insulin Resistance & Diabetes.

Some vague lameness issues are actually directly caused by incorrect nutrition. Many horse owner's knee jerk response to owning an easy keeper is to only feed this horse a "handful". This will only exacerbate the problem in the long run as the horse becomes increasingly malnourished because he/she isn't receiving a suitable amount of the necessary minerals & vitamins to keep their bodies working. The easy keeper needs to be fed an appropriate feed that contains vitamins, minerals, protein, & fiber with a LOW Carbohydrate content.
