GHERF is seeking an energetic and educated individual to teach mounted and unmounted programming to children and adults with varying conditions. Good Hope Equestrian & Regenerative Farm, Inc. in Halifax, Virginia (www.gherf.org) is seeking a Part-Time (CHA) Riding Instructor to teach children and youth in group lessons on Saturdays and potentially on weekday evenings. Candidate must be self-directed, capable of planning and executing effective lessons that may incorporate grooming and tacking up in addition to mounted work. Must be a keen observer and knowledgeable of equine behavior and an effective communicator.
Scope of Work: Plan, deliver, document, and maintain reports for effective, professional, and high-quality therapeutic riding lessons and/or unmounted horsemanship lessons.
Reports to: Executive Director (ED)
Responsibilities:
Attend prescheduled orientation and training on GHERF lesson standards, as well as attend GHERF meetings.
Instruct assigned participants to the highest standards.
Oversee cleanup of the arena, tack room, teaching props, and office area after lessons are completed.
Maintain lesson plans, weekly progress notes, and participant required documentation.
Read, sign, and adhere to the GHERF Code of Conduct and Stables Rules.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications:
Current and appropriate certification by CHA &/or PATH, International
Current CPR/First Aid.
Experience teaching group lessons, both mounted and unmounted.
Working knowledge of horses and horse behavior.
Ability to ride and instruct at all gaits.
