We purchased Rooster in May of this year to be my mom's lower level event partner. Unfortunately, we have come to the decision that even though he is a total dreamboat, they are not a good match.
That said, our loss is your gain. Rooster seems to shine in the dressage ring and we think he is going to make a deserving amateur's dreams come true. Rooster has lofty gaits, is soft and steady in the bridle, has excellent lateral work, is good off the leg and really seems to love the job. He is very comfortable with first level movements, as well as shoulder in, haunches in, simple changes, and counter canter.
Rooster has a clean vetting from when we purchased him in May, including good back x-rays as well (done for the sale, not because of clinical issues). He has expected maintenance for a horse of his size - hocks and stifles once a year. He had not had any maintenance in about two years when we purchased him, so he recently had a round of Legends and was injected with PRP, and has responded very well. He wears four steel shoes and has good feet, has no breathing issues, he tolerates heat well and has no problem sweating.
Rooster is easy in the barn, is turned out at night, and would do almost anything for an apple. Although he does not have any naughty behavior or vices, he is a bit of a worrier and has what I would consider a typical warmblood spook. His spook does not lead to further theatrics, but it can be disconcerting to some riders so we want to be clear about it up front.
The more we have gotten to know Rooster, the more we like him. He hops right on the trailer, is excellent for the farrier and absolutely loves to be fussed over. He is currently getting a professional training ride twice a week, and we are having a blast playing around with him 2-3 other days. He is very fun to ride over cavaletti and poles. He has a fairly extensive eventing record at beginner novice. However, he needs a lot of support from his rider when it comes to jumping, so he is being sold primarily as a dressage horse as that is where he seems happiest.
He will continue in dressage training until sold. He is entered in the USDF Region 1 Finals the week of October 5th at first level in Lexington Virginia.
