✨ Meet Shasta: The Perfect Trail Companion!
For the past four years, Shasta has been my unwavering companion. While her gaited breeding gives her that incredible smooth ride, Shasta is truly unique. She's been trained to offer, on cue, either a comfortable trot or a smooth gait. You'll experience the famous "rocking horse" canter that makes every ride feel like a dream.
🏞️ A Passion for Trails
Shasta thrives on adventure! She's a trail-loving superstar, confident and sure-footed over all types of terrain. Gates, bridges, and water crossings are no match for her, and she even loves to splash around! While she prefers to follow on the trails, her naturally faster walk means she loves to pass everyone, and her delight in gaiting up hills is truly contagious. Shasta is incredibly aware of her rider's safety; in all our time together, any spook has been a simple four-footed plant, never a bolt, buck, or rear.
📚 Accomplished and Versatile
Beyond the trails, Shasta is an accomplished partner. We've proudly earned our Pony Club D2 Flat and D3 Western certifications, tackled mounted and unmounted obstacles, enjoyed games, improved our skills in judged pleasure rides, and have even done some liberty training.
She's not a "dead broke" horse; she's got lovely impulsion when asked, a wonderful "go" without being overly forward, and she responds beautifully to clear cues. While I hesitate to label her as "husband safe," Shasta is excellent with beginners who understand horse behavior. She may need clear signals to avoid confusion, but her love for human companionship and her eagerness to please make her a fantastic partner for riders of all skill levels.
🥰 A Loving Personality
But what truly sets Shasta apart is her heart. She's an amazing, sweet, and loving mare who effortlessly charms everyone she meets—from the barn manager and farrier to the vet, and especially children! She adores being groomed, particularly when you help her with those hard-to-reach places 😉. She mostly self-loads on the trailer (especially when heading home!) with a little encouragement, and her only endearing "vice" is a little pawing when she thinks she's missing out on the fun.
🌼 Your New Best Friend
Imagine the joy of calling her name and watching her gallop across the field to greet you, always asking for one last kiss, scratch, and treat before you leave. Shasta's intelligence shines through in her communication, and she's even been known to "fetch" other horses at feeding time.
🤠 Ready for Adventures
She's up-to-date on all vaccines, boasts beautiful hooves thanks to regular farrier care, has regular dental check-ups, and has no history of lameness while I've had her. I've ridden her English and Western, but really enjoy riding her bareback (though I haven't had the guts to do so on the trails LOL)!
